Overview
Nostradamus, in line with the Farm to Fork strategy, the Common Agricultural Policy, and the European strategy for data, will design, develop, and evaluate a scalable and robust platform for the online and real-time harvesting of valuable information derived from different data sources for developing several agricultural applications. Based on European and four national multidimensional datasets, an automated pipeline regarding the data acquisition, storage, and pre-processing, the developed platform will handle several open and commercial satellite datasets while employing in (near) real-time several server-side algorithms for time-series analysis and value-added geospatial maps.
For enhancing the sustainability performance and competitiveness of the agricultural sector through a multi-actor approach, Nostradamus will develop a number of open-source-based digital applications for farmers considering both edge and cloud solutions, as well as a combination of the two, taking into account the potential of advanced Internet of Things solutions and Earth Observation data. Leveraging data from various sources that enable real-time data collection and analysis, farmers will be provided with actionable insights to optimize their operations and improve their yields, reducing agricultural inputs' utilization, which will boost EU resilience, independence, and ecological ambitions for agriculture.
In addition, the systematic update of this data will strengthen the monitoring of the agricultural practices and the administrative capacities in this sector. Moreover, Nostradamus will adopt a multi-actor approach across the entire period of the project (workshops, field visits, training activities, etc.) that will continuously engage a variety of stakeholders, such as farmers, farm advisors, IT experts, and scientists, to reflect the knowledge, gaps, and needs of different groups properly and maximize the potential of deployment of the developed digital solutions and applications.
AGFUTURA Role
AgFutura Technologies (AGFT) develops a scalable cloud-based platform using Data Cubes and Copernicus data to enhance food security and European agricultural independence. The company brings expertise in GIS, remote sensing, precision agriculture, and digital farming solutions, contributing across multiple work packages throughout the project.
Notably, AgFutura leads Task 3.1 in WP3, overseeing the integration of existing databases for agricultural management practices, including crop vegetation, soil, and meteorological data, while also supporting data pipeline development, Data Hub operations, and the integration of agricultural market and socio-economic data. The company further contributes to the deployment of core modules in WP4, such as soil fertility and crop nutritional management and sustainable pest management, and participates in multi-actor networking, needs-driven requirements gathering, Data Cubes development, and third-party digital application validation.
AGFT also plays an active role in stakeholder engagement, training, and exploitation activities. The company helps bridge Earth Observation and remote sensing data with practical farming applications, supporting the project's goals of enabling real-time decision support, reducing agricultural inputs, and improving sustainability across European agriculture.
