Features and applications

Key features

Sensitive detection in all weather

A gold-plated ring surface with automatic heating for snow and ice.

  • High sensitivity to rain and snow
  • Qualitative detection of precipitation onset
  • Automatic heating up to 10 W
  • Gold-plated conductive surface
  • IP67-rated housing

Applications

Where it is used

Suited to automation that needs to react when precipitation starts.

  • Agrometeorological stations
  • Greenhouse control
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Automated vents and windows
  • Farms and smart buildings
What this product is

Early recognition of precipitation

The sensor provides sensitive, qualitative detection of rain and snow. Drops or snow are registered by the ring-shaped conductive surface, after which the device sends a switching signal through a normally open relay contact. Automatic heating is available to melt snow and ice.

This sensor has a relay output and integrates with a suitable digital input on the AGRO VEDA station.

Usage

Integration and use

  • Mount the sensor with the sensing surface tilted about 15° from the horizontal.
  • The tilt lets water run off and reduces how much stays on the sensitive surface.
  • The relay output can be used as a binary input to log when precipitation starts and ends.
  • Automatic heating keeps it working when snow or ice forms on the sensing surface.
